Eq's Word Finder is a word study tool that lets you search a dictionary for words that match particular criteria: anagrams, words that begin or end with a letter sequence, and more.

It is intended as a study aid for people who play Scrabble and other word games. Using it during a game is considered cheating!

The download does not include any word lists. The International Scrabble Club is a good place to get word lists for Scrabble.

The first time you run the word finder, you need to open a word list. Go to File > Open Word List, browse to the folder where you installed the program (probably something like c:\Program Files\Eq's Word Finder), and choose one of the available word lists.

Features

  • Use Quick Check to check a word immediately, or Advanced to search for words.
  • Include ? wildcards for blank tiles (any letter allowed).
  • Find words by length, prefix/suffix, and component letters, whether or not they occur in sequence.
  • Look up a word's definition on the Internet or in another program.
  • Copy selected words to the Clipboard to paste into other documents, such as study lists.
  • Full support for regular expressions, a powerful pattern-matching mechanism from computer programming.
  • Smooth background execution: you can cancel a long-running search.
  • A help file explains the program's features in depth.
