Imogen is a free HTML image map generator and editor. You can create a new page with an image map in it, or open an existing Web page and edit any of its image maps in place.

Imogen supports the entire client-side image map specification, except the unusual case where the image's usemap attribute references a map on a different page — which isn't supported by most Web browsers either.

  • Download Imogen 1.0.0.0 Windows installer (310 KB) - requires .NET Framework 1.1.
  • Download binaries only for other platforms (130 KB).

Imogen includes a comprehensive Help file. You can also get a short description of any item in a window by clicking the [?] Help button in the title bar.

Features

  • Create new image maps or edit maps in existing Web pages. You can even open files directly from the Internet.
  • Quickly and easily draw rectangles, circles, and polygons and edit their links and titles.
  • Use Web Page Preview to view your image map in any Web browser at the touch of a button.
  • Every attribute for map, image, and area can be configured — even scripts for event handlers.
  • Imogen generates standards-compliant HTML, right down to the encoding of character entities.

Known bugs

  • The main scrollable area sometimes reverts to the top left-hand corner for no apparent reason (e.g. when bringing Imogen to the front or clicking on a shape). This appears to be a bug in Windows Forms.

Source code

Here's Imogen's source code. It's written in C# for .NET 1.x, which means no generics.

Feel free to reuse parts of Imogen if you find them useful, but don't be a jerk and re-release the whole thing with your name on it. I'd appreciate being credited if you use large portions.

Imogen incorporates the HtmlAgilityPack (.NET 1.x version) by Simon Mourier, which is released separately under the Microsoft Public License (Ms-PL), included in the package.
