About meI'm no longer convinced that anybody needs or deserves an About me page, and I have regularly deleted my own attempts in disgust, but I might as well erect some small personal bastion against the irritating tide of identical "social networking" profiles. I'm Paul Equinox Collins. Some people call me Eq. I was born in south-east England on 23 May 1980, which makes me 29 years old. Some likes and dislikesI like spicy food (Indian, Mexican, Thai, anything with jalapeños); surreal and morbid humour; old computers and video games; certain genres of music; reading (science fiction, Gothic, philosophy, psychology, linguistics); Usenet newsgroups; word games, including anagrams, cryptic crosswords, and Scrabble®; daylight and summertime; cats, especially this cutie; almost anything about the 1980s; and people who are intelligent, friendly and introverted. I dislike most forms of marketing and advertising; "Web 2.0" and the dumbing-down of the Internet; the current obsession with mobile phones; almost all media (including almost all television, films, magazines, and chart music); people who are maliciously deceitful, pointlessly rude and sarcastic, or unable to shut up about Linux or Microsoft; and laddism and the cult of stupidity. BeliefsI don't believe in astrology, divination, fate, God or gods, karma, luck (as a personal constant), magic and witchcraft, the occult, out-of-body experiences, any sort of consciousness after death, psychics, reincarnation, souls and soulmates, superstitions, or "spirituality" in general. But I do enjoy coincidences. I am dubious about the objectivity of anything beyond fundamental mathematics. I don't think that any moral code can be considered objectively correct, for instance. I had some other beliefs listed here, but they seemed rather out of date and anyway nobody cares.
