Jet Set WillyJet Set Willy is a classic Spectrum platform game from 1984. After a drunken party, mega-rich Willy has to journey around his huge mansion clearing up the bottles and glasses. JSW was probably the first large-scale platform game, but it's memorable for plenty of other reasons, from its frustrating glitches — particularly "infinite death" situations, where you plummet repeatedly and lose all your lives — to the general surrealism of the rooms and enemies. JSW editing tools have enjoyed some popularity, and there are dozens of fan games that create new environments using the original engine (or something close to it). JSW Studio
I started writing a JSW editing tool called JSW Studio, focusing on ease of use, but eventually gave up on it, mostly because I was finding the ropes impossible to get right! Here are details and source code. Jet Set Willy: The 2005 MegamixBack in 1996, I started work on a JSW game called Jet Set Willy: The '96 Remix, based on the remaining Spectrum scene — magazines, demo groups, etc. — of that time. I never finished the project, and some of the game data was lost when the floppy disk got corrupted. However, a demo version I had sent to a friend got leaked onto the Internet, and Daniel Gromann eventually incorporated its 48 rooms and handful of sprites into a larger game of his own: Jet Set Willy: The 2005 Megamix. Jet Set Willy: OnlineI have some old notes about the Windows remake Jet Set Willy: Online. It's Wet JellyIt's Wet Jelly is JSW with a twist: each of the 60 rooms of the original map has been redesigned according to its anagram. For example, The Bathroom is now The Ram Booth. The music and game messages have been anagrammed, too! Unlike most fan adaptations, It's Wet Jelly is not much harder than the original game (which was probably hard enough), and anyone can explore the map. For the experts, though, there are four hidden rooms requiring much more skill to find and complete.
Here is Daniel Gromann's review of the game. He also noticed a small bug: completing the screen Blind jeweller veers into hive is impossible without losing a life. Screenshots
